The best job at CoGo

I am the Chief Product Officer at CoGo. The best job in any start-up. Why? You need to understand the market and the job you are helping people to get done better than anyone else, so you're close to users all the time.

You get to see first hand the difference that your business makes to your user’s lives, and in our case, to our customer's businesses as well.

Before CoGo, I was working for another start-up in Fintech. Our mission was to help people get the most value out of their everyday spending and household bills. We didn't succeed, but we learned some priceless lessons about building and bringing to market a product that builds new spending habits.

In many ways CoGo was a seamless transition from my previous role – open banking, "good" spending, new habits, etc. The difference with CoGo is that it's not about saving you money, and not just about helping businesses to retain customers, but about helping you to make more of your purchases from ethical and sustainable businesses, and about helping businesses to make positive changes to the way they operate and the products they make or sell.

We envision a world in which all of your purchases are from businesses that we have been able to accredit for their good practices, so that people and the planet are both better off.

We believe in changing business to change the world, and with CoGo you can make it happen.

We have been working hard to better understand our users, and define a product strategy and roadmap that we think will enable us to achieve our vision of a better world. We have also been in the trenches prototyping new features and testing them with awesome people who want to feel like they are spending money with businesses who are doing their best to make a positive difference.

We have been delighted to be able to run prototype sessions with value aligned organisations, including Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, and look forward to running more in the coming weeks.

We will be launching a whole suite of new features in the next couple of months designed to make it easy for you to discover and shop with businesses that match your values, and see how your good spending is adding up.

Soon we expect to be able to let you share your banking data with us, so that we can show you how much of your spending you are already doing with ethical and sustainable businesses, and what you can do next to improve.

I am also excited about a new feature called CoGo Go - different ways that we can anticipate what you may want next: Caffeine fix? Lunch to go? Shampoo? - and immediately help to find ethical and sustainable businesses taking action on the things that matter to you.

All in all, there are lots of great things coming up at CoGo and I’d love you to get involved!

  • If you’ve used the app and can spare 5 minutes to give us your 10 cents, we’d love it if you could complete this survey.

  • If you and a few of your colleagues or friends are starting to buy more consciously I'd also be interested in sitting down with you for an hour to understand how we can make the product better - drop me an email if you’re interested: Darren@CoGo.co
